Biography
Born June 12, 1924, in Milton, Massachusetts, he was a decorated WWII Navy pilot before building a career in the Texas oil business. He served as a congressman, CIA director, and Vice President under Reagan before winning the presidency in 1988. His term included the Gulf War and the end of the Cold War, though he lost re-election in 1992 to Bill Clinton. He died in 2018.

Fun Fact
He was the last WWII combat veteran to serve as president, and one of the youngest naval aviators in the Navy at the time he earned his wings. In one of the more remarkable stories, his plane was shot down during a 1944 bombing mission over the Pacific, and he was one of the few crew members who survived, eventually being rescued by a U.S. submarine.
