Biography
Born February 9, 1773, at Berkeley Plantation in Charles City County, Virginia. He became a career military officer and territorial governor, most famous for leading American forces at the Battle of Tippecanoe (1811) against Native American forces led by Tecumseh's confederacy, and later for his service in the War of 1812, including victory at the Battle of the Thames. He went on to a political career, serving in the House of Representatives, the Senate, and as a diplomat, before being elected the 9th President of the United States in 1840. He took office on March 4, 1841, at age 68 — the oldest president up to that point.

Harrison holds the record for the shortest presidency in U.S. history — just 31 days. He delivered the longest inaugural address ever (around 8,445 words, over an hour and forty minutes) in cold, wet weather without a coat or hat, and died of illness on April 4, 1841. He was also the last U.S. president born as a British subject (before the Declaration of Independence), and his grandson Benjamin Harrison later became the 23rd president — the only grandfather-grandson pair of presidents in U.S. history.
