Biography

Ronald Wilson Reagan was born February 6, 1911, in Tampico, Illinois. Before entering politics, he had a long career as a Hollywood actor, appearing in over 50 films, and later served as president of the Screen Actors Guild. He transitioned into politics as Governor of California from 1967 to 1975, then won the presidency in 1980. His two terms (1981–1989) were defined by conservative economic policies known as "Reaganomics," a major military buildup, and his role in the closing chapter of the Cold War, including his famous "tear down this wall" speech in Berlin. He survived an assassination attempt in 1981, just months into his presidency. After leaving office, he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease and passed away in 2004.

Fun Fact
He's the only U.S. president to have been a member of a labor union β€” as president of the Screen Actors Guild, he actually led it through a notable 1960 strike. It's a surprising detail given his later reputation as a champion of conservative, pro-business policies during his presidency.
