Harry S. Truman"Give 'Em Hell Harry"

Harry S. Truman was born May 8, 1884. Before politics, he served as an artillery officer in WWI and later ran a men's clothing store that failed during a post-war recession. He entered politics through Missouri's political machine, becoming a U.S. Senator before being chosen as Franklin D. Roosevelt's running mate in 1944. He became President upon Roosevelt's death in April 1945, just months into WWII's final stretch, and made the momentous decision to use atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki to end the war with Japan. He won a full term in his own right in 1948 in a stunning upset over Thomas Dewey, and his presidency (1945–1953) also included the start of the Cold War, the Marshall Plan, the Berlin Airlift, and the Korean War.
