Lawrence Joseph Hogan Jr. is an American politician and businessman who served as the 62nd governor of Maryland from 2015 to 2023. A member of the Republican Party and son of three-term U.S. representative Lawrence Hogan, he served as co-chair of the centrist organization No Labels from 2020 to 2023. As of 2026, Hogan and Boyd Rutherford, his lieutenant governor, are the last Republicans to have won or held statewide office in Maryland.

William Donald Schaefer was an American politician who served in public office for 50 years at both the state and local level in Maryland. As a Democrat, he was the 45th mayor of Baltimore from December 1971 to January 1987, the 58th governor of Maryland from January 21, 1987, to January 18, 1995, and the 32nd comptroller of Maryland from January 20, 1999, to January 17, 2007. On September 12, 2006, he was defeated in his reelection bid for a third term as Comptroller by Maryland Delegate Peter Franchot in the Democratic Party primary.

Marvin Mandel was an American politician and lawyer who served as the 56th governor of Maryland from January 7, 1969, to January 17, 1979, including a one-and-a-half-year period when Lieutenant Governor Blair Lee III served as the state's acting governor from June 1977 to January 15, 1979 while Mandel was in federal prison for mail fraud and racketeering. He was a member of the Democratic Party, as well as Maryland's first, and to date, only Jewish governor.
