Samuel Alito, a former federal appeals judge and U.S. Attorney, was confirmed to replace the more moderate Sandra Day O’Connor and has since become one of the Court’s more consistently conservative votes, authoring the 2022 majority opinion in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization overturning Roe v. Wade.
