Ward Hunt

Ward Hunt presided over the 1873 trial of Susan B. Anthony for illegal voting, directing the jury to convict without deliberation. A stroke in 1878 left him largely unable to serve, but he remained on the Court for years afterward until Congress passed a special law letting him retire with a pension.
