Florida sends 27 members to the U.S. House of Representatives and two Senators to the U.S. Senate, for a 29-member delegation in the 119th Congress — currently 7 Democrats and 22 Republicans. Because House seats are reapportioned only once a decade based on the U.S. Census, Florida's 28 House seats are fixed through the 2030 census — that same apportionment sets Florida's 30 electoral votes for president: one per House seat, plus one for each of its two Senators.
Florida became the 27th state to join the Union, in 1845, and its capital is Tallahassee. State-level lawmaking happens in the Florida Legislature, made up of a 120-seat House of Representatives (2-year terms) and a 40-seat Senate (4-year terms).
