Georgia sends 14 members to the U.S. House of Representatives and two Senators to the U.S. Senate, for a 16-member delegation in the 119th Congress — currently 7 Democrats and 9 Republicans. Because House seats are reapportioned only once a decade based on the U.S. Census, Georgia's 14 House seats are fixed through the 2030 census — that same apportionment sets Georgia's 16 electoral votes for president: one per House seat, plus one for each of its two Senators.
Georgia became the 4th state to join the Union, in 1788, and its capital is Atlanta. State-level lawmaking happens in the Georgia General Assembly, made up of a 180-seat House of Representatives (2-year terms) and a 56-seat State Senate (2-year terms).
