Ohio sends 15 members to the U.S. House of Representatives and two Senators to the U.S. Senate, for a 17-member delegation in the 119th Congress — currently 5 Democrats and 12 Republicans. Because House seats are reapportioned only once a decade based on the U.S. Census, Ohio's 15 House seats are fixed through the 2030 census — that same apportionment sets Ohio's 17 electoral votes for president: one per House seat, plus one for each of its two Senators.
Ohio became the 17th state to join the Union, in 1803, and its capital is Columbus. State-level lawmaking happens in the Ohio General Assembly, made up of a 99-seat House of Representatives (2-year terms) and a 33-seat Senate (4-year terms). Look up Ohio's state senators and representatives →
