James Iredell

James Iredell was the youngest of the original justices and the Court’s lone dissenter in Chisholm v. Georgia (1793), the ruling that prompted the Eleventh Amendment. He died in 1799 at just 48, worn down by the grueling travel the early Court’s circuit-riding duties required.
